Technical director
Reporting to the project director, technical directors organise, mobilise, and manage technical services on our major projects. They generally oversee design and implementation studies, including geotechnical issues, methods, and planning. They oversee all technical issues on projects and suggest and apply technical solutions and variants, monitors quantities, and manages the progress of studies and their approval. They lead their projects’ technical teams and manage contracts with design service providers.
Cost engineer
Cost engineers are responsible for financial assessment, in whole or in part, on projects. Following their technical analysis of the project, they define methods, project inputs, and evolving cost structures. They also determine the cost of project implementation as well as human and material resources in ongoing efforts to ensure profitability.
Structural engineer
Working closely with worksite managers, structural engineers oversee implementation studies and structure-related calculations. They prepare and produce technical studies and coordinate the use of formwork and reinforcement needed in in the construction phase of the project. They determine global or provisional technical process requirements and organisational methodologies and construction costs.
Methods engineer
Reporting to the director overseeing methods, methods engineers are involved in projects at the interface between structural studies and worksite teams; their task is to define work methodology and execution prior to project implementation. They establish project sequencing and oversee the design of specific equipment needed in the construction phase, while ensuring compliance with budgets as well as performance and innovation objectives.
Methods designer
Reporting to the design engineer, methods designers develop technical solutions for projects and provide visual aids such digital blueprints and models. They create the documents needed to set out project scheduling and sequencing clearly and to manufacture special equipment required in the construction phase of the project.
BIM MANAGER
BIM managers oversee the launch and monitoring of BIM (Building Information Modelling) projects and coordinate participation by all players involved in the BIM process. They are responsible for the production of building information models and functionalities as well as the development of BIM standards and their application and use on projects. They develop and update the BIM Execution Plan, produce project models in compliance with project requirements at each phase (design, construction, operation, and maintenance). They establish and monitor performance indicators to ensure full project compliance with the BIM process.
PLANNING ENGINEER
Planning engineers work on project sites where they are responsible for planning and assessing project progress. Working closely with production teams, they identify the various planning constraints that confront the parties involved in the project. They update project planning in compliance with instructions from project directors, analyse deviations from the plan, and put forward action plans to optimise timely performance in response to internal and external project constraints. At head office, planning engineers analyse contractual clauses and provide an overview of scheduling issues. They study and develop project programming in conjunction with other project participants to establish the project’s critical path. They also assemble the content for the tender process, risk-analysis, and the drafting of program-related reservations. In addition, they establish the cash-flow forecast for the project.
GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER
Reporting to technical division management (geotechnical directors in the science department), geotechnical engineers take part in technical supervision on projects (for bridges, underground structures, stations, airports, filtration plants, buildings, dams, LNG storage tanks, and more). They deal with all ground or soil-related issues: defining, monitoring, and interpreting geotechnical campaigns; carrying out risk-analysis; defining calculation parameters for structures; finding and optimising technical solutions and scaling/justifying geotechnical structures (foundations, retaining structures, soil improvement, groundwater drawdown, and more). They work closely with the various entities within the technical division, operational divisions, and worksites.
